Day 4

Madaba – Mount Nebo – Petra

Visit two important sites on your way to Petra today. Mount Nebo is one of the most revered holy sites of Jordan and the place where Moses was buried. A small Byzantine church was built there by early Christians, which has been expanded into a vast complex. Then visit Saint George Church, where you’ll see the Madaba Mosaic Map covering the church floor – this map is one of the earliest cartographic representations of the Middle East. The church was built in 1896 AD over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church.

Continue onward to Petra and check into your hotel for overnight.

Day 5

With your guide, explore the Red Rose City of Petra. Carved out of pink sandstone, the city dates back to 300 BC, when it was an important center for trade. In addition to the most famous structure – the Al Khazneh – there are hundreds of elaborate rock-cut tombs with intricate carvings thought to be built for the afterlife. The scale and landscape of the city leaves visitors in awe.

Day 6

Little Petra – Wadi Rum

After breakfast, visit Siq Al-Barid or ‘Little Petra’, an important suburb of the city of Petra. Situated at the point where several ancient caravan routes met, Little Petra linked Wadi Araba with Gaza, Egypt and the Mediterranean coast.

Then onto breathtaking Wadi Rum. This is a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces. Here, it is the weather and winds that have carved the imposing, towering skyscrapers, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as “vast, echoing and god-like”. Upon arrival transfer to a 4X4 Bedouin jeep and explore Wadi Rum. Arrive at a Bedouin camp for an introduction to the Bedouin community and enjoy an authentic dinner with locals.

Day 7

Wadi Rum – Dead Sea

After breakfast, head to the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth. Jordan’s Dead Sea coast is one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the world. The main attraction of the Dead Sea is te soothing, abnormally salty water – the water is so salty that it’s impossible for you to sink. Relax and unwind in this tranquil location.
