6 Days, 5 Nights

Day 1

Arrive Guatemala City — Antigua

Depart home and fly to Guatemala City. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by your guide, who will transfer you to your hotel in the charming colonial city of Antigua.

Day 2


Breakfast orientation to Maya Health Alliance and the program for the week. After breakfast, transfer to Tecpan—in the central highlands of Guatemala—for your first site visit. You will have the opportunity to visit a rural Mayan community with local Maya Health Alliance health promoters and staff to view how the organization provides sustaining and quality healthcare services in low-resource environments.

Enjoy a delicious, traditional Guatemalan dinner this evening after check-in at the hotel and freshening up.

Day 3


Transfer to Lake Atitlan, surrounded by three stunning volcanoes rising out of its emerald surface. Characterized by its natural beauty, surrounded by gorgeous views of the volcanoes and indigenous villages filled with culture, the famous writer Aldous Huxley considered it ¨the most beautiful lake in the world¨.

Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at the hotel. Afternoon, explore San Juan La Laguna, a town famous for it’s naïf art galleries, town murals and naturally dyed textiles.

Evening at leisure to explore further, dinner on your own.

Day 4


After breakfast, spend the day visiting Maya Health Alliance sites around Lake Atitlan where care is provided for a variety of indigenous communities in the area.

Along with Maya Health Alliance’s expert staff you will see firsthand the health care services that the organization provides to one of Lake Atitlan’s communities. Learn about the authentic life of rural Guatemala and the measures Maya Health Alliance takes to ensure locals receive quality care.

Evening at leisure to stroll the streets of Panajachel, dinner on your own.

Day 5


Transfer to Antigua after breakfast for an afternoon at leisure.

Discover the secrets of Antigua’s traditional history and art. Admire the colonial architecture of the XVI century churches, buildings, fine arts, terra-cotta ceramics, wooden sculptures and a great variety of traditional weavings, or simply relax at the outdoor pool or enjoy a spa treatment at your hotel.

Evening farewell dinner at the hotel.

Day 6


Say goodbye to the wonderful staff at Maya Health Alliance and beautiful Guatemala. After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home or extend your stay!


Explore two magnificent ancient ruins—Tikal, one of the largest and most well understood Mayan ruins known, and Yaxha, another important site in the northern state of El Petén.


Copán—a World Heritage Site in Honduras—was a flourishing Maya capital city that was occupied for over two thousand years. Spend a day walking through it’s ruins then head for the Rio Dulce and Livingston, where you will encounter the Garifuna people.


Hike this beautiful cloud forest reserve of waterfalls, birds and orchids. With any luck, catch a glimpse of the stunning Quetzal, for which the park is named.
